If intubation is not possible, bypassing airway is considered such as tracheostomy. However, when the airway obstruction is too severe that the supine position cannot be taken, the difficulty of tracheostomy increases and there is a risk of worsening hypoxia during surgery. In this case, the application of high flow nasal cannula can help to supply oxygen more effectively. We experienced a case of a patient with a deep neck abscess who had hypoxia due to a sudden deterioration of the airway obstruction, in which breathing was stably maintained using a high flow nasal cannula.
